Long-legged Spider Crab - Macropodia rostrata

Long-legged Spider Crab - Macropodia rostrata

The long-legged spider crab, Macropodia rostrata, is a very common crab on kelp and particularly muddy sand. Quite slow moving and vulnerable to predation, it often camouflages itself with algae in order to blend in with its surroundings. Probably grows to about 10cms across the full stretch of the legs.
